Upper Ojai is located along Ojai-Santa Paula Road (Highway 150) between the City of Ojai and Santa Paula. Upper Ojai is a rural and pastoral area where homes sit on parcels from less than 1-acre to over 40 acres. Once you leave the City of Ojai going east you will climb higher g into Upper Valley on what is known as the Dennison Grade.
When you reach the overlook on the grade there is a wonderful place to stop and look out over the grandeur of the Ojai Valley ¦Shangri La!

Upper Ojai is home to the Beasant Hill School which is a private boarding school for grades 9 to 12. Beasant Hill offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum for grades 9 through 12. Based on the Socratic method of teaching, classes are facilitated by generating questions, which arouses a sense of inquiry and interest, and encourages students to develop logical assessment skills for problem-solving.
Along with the Beasant Hill School you will also find The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts. This center celebrates the life and work of Beatrice Wood while presenting exhibitions of contemporary art, workshops and events. Another famous institution that can be found in Upper Ojai is The Ojai Foundation. This is a place where people come together in a beautiful country setting to study, learn and interact with each other. Larry Hagman, the famous actor form the TV series Dallas used to live in Upper Ojai in a home he called "Heaven." This home sold after Larry's passing. It is said that this home commands one of the most spectacular views in all of Ventura County. Larry was a great guy and always helped-out with community and charitable events.

Upper Ojai is also home to the 3600 acre Black Mountain Cattle Ranch.
